My name is Milagros Medina. I got the PhD in Biochemistry in 1992 at University of Zaragoza, Spain. After a postdoctoral period of three months with Prof. Tollin at the University of Arizona (USA, 1992, Fast kinetics) and another two years with Prof. Cammack at King´s College London (UK, 1993-1994, flavoproteins, metalloproteins and electron paramagnetic resonance techniques), I returned to UNIZAR in 1995 with a reincorporation-MEC contract. In 1997 I got the Boehringer-Manheinn Scientific Award. In 1998 I promoted to Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular and Cellular Biology (UNIZAR), I was Departmental Secretary in the 2004-2006 period, and in 2011 I promoted to Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and from January 2015 I am the Coordinator of the Degree in Biotechnology at UNIZAR. Since 2001 I am Senior Researcher of the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems, from where I was Deputy Director in the 2009-2011 period. I have been the PI of the Flavoenzymes Group at UNIZAR since 2001. I investigate the structure-function relationship in metabolic processes dependent on redox reactions mediated by redox proteins, enzymes and coenzymes. In particular, my interest focuses on understanding the versatility of flavoproteins and flavoenzymes as efficient and sophisticated molecular tools that use molecular recognition to regulate cellular processes, and to use this knowledge to increase the use of these proteins in biotechnological applications. To do this, I combine a large number of biochemical and biophysical tools with the use of computational methods. I am active in the international community who works in flavoproteins, participating as a regular researcher in international symposiums "Flavins and Flavoproteins", in its organization and currently belong to its Scientific Committee. As a teacher I have started and taught several courses in the Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, in the Degree in Biotechnology, in the Master in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Master in Quantitative Biotechnology, and in the Doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (UNIZAR). I have directed 16 BSc/MSc Thesis and 14 PhD (7 extraordinary doctoral award). My group is funded by the Spanish Ministry projects (IP in 6 projects) and regional programs (IP on various projects and of the Reference Group Structural Biology). I have participate also in the international CM1103 COST ACTION (2011-2015), the EU-Interreg-SUDOE (2014-2015), and the PARACAT ITN-consortium, all of them financed by EU.
